We’ve long been expecting the arrival of possible mid-range AMD graphics cards, with speculation rife about possible RX 7800 XT, RX 7800, and RX 7700 cards. Now, finally, AMD has at least confirmed we will be getting some new ‘enthusiast’ AMD gaming GPUs in Q3 this year.

The announcement was made during the company’s second-quarter earnings call, where AMD CEO and President, Dr. Lisa Su, revealed new ‘enthusiast-class Radeon 7000 series cards’ would be arriving in the third quarter of this year.

As ever with any announcements that make reference to a quarter, we don’t know whether the cards will arrive at the start or end of the quarter, but given we’re already into August, there’s only the rest of this month and September to go before we move into Q4. As such, we’d expect a September release in time for the back-to-school and holiday periods, which would be a full nine months after the release of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

It’s also unclear exactly what Dr. Su means by ‘enthusiast’. However, given the company has previously described its 7900 series cards as ‘ultra-enthusiast’ and its RX 7600 as ‘mainstream’, it’s a fair bet that the RX 7800 XT, RX 7800, RX 7700 will make up the ‘enthusiast’ lineup, with expected prices to range from between $450 and $650.

The RX 7600 is currently our top choice for best budget graphics card so we’re hopefully these new cards will offer equally good value and offer some stiff competition to the likes of the Nvidia RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti.
