AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT release date, price, and specs revealed

New AMD gaming GPU battles the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, with the graphics card having 12GB of VRAM, a 192-bit memory interface, and a price of $449.

Make sure you read our full Radeon RX 7700 XT review, now that this AMD mid-range GPU has officially launched. We run it in loads of gaming benchmarks, with and without ray tracing, and give our verdict on it compared with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.

The Radeon RX 7700 XT gaming GPU was officially announced by AMD at Gamescom, with a spec and price that places it between the Radeon RX 7600 and the newly-announced RX 7800 XT. The new graphics card directly takes on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, with a price that sits midway between the 8GB and 16GB versions of that GPU.

That makes sense, as the Radeon RX 7700 XT has 12GB of GDDR6 memory. This should give it a decent edge over the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, which couldn’t properly run our Doom Eternal ray tracing test as it maxed out our test card’s memory. However, its price of $449 is positioned surprisingly close to the $499 price of the Radeon RX 7800 XT.

Like the RX 7800 XT, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is based on the new Navi 32 GPU, but it only has 54 compute units enabled. This gives rge RX 7700 XT 3,456 stream processors and 54 ray tracing cores, along with 108 of AMD’s AI Accelerator matrix cores, which were introduced with the AMD RDNA 3 architecture. These are the AMD equivalent of Nvidia’s Tensor cores, although AMD has yet to make any use of them in games.

Unlike the RX 7800 XT, however, the RX 7700 XT only has a 192-bit memory interface. This is wider than the 128-bit bus found on the RTX 4060 Ti, though, and AMD has also equipped the RX 7700 XT with 48MB of L3 cache to help minimize cache misses, and therefore reduce strain on the bus. The RX 7700 XT has 12GB of GDDR6 memory running at 2250 MHz (18 GHz effective), which gives it a total memory bandwidth of 432GB/s.

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT price

The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT price is $449, which is slightly more expensive than the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti 8GB but cheaper than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

Price: $449

AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT release date

The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT release date was Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs have so far made a good impression on us. There are some disappointments – the ray tracing performance isn’t as good as GPUs based on the Nvidia Ada architecture, and there’s currently no AI frame generation tech, such as DLSS 3, although FSR 3 is soon going to change that situation. However, the performance for the money is generally solid, and both the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7600 are listed on best graphics card guide.

The pricing puts the Radeon RX 7700 XT puts it in a strange place, though – you only need to spend an extra $50 to get 4GB of extra VRAM and a wider memory interface, as well as a better-specced GPU. Whether it’s worth the money will come down to its performance compared to the RTX 4060 Ti, and we’ll be finding out all about that when we review it.
