Nvidia has quickly rushed out a GeForce driver update in order to improve performance in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on its latest graphics cards. The new 537.09 hotfix follows the release of Nvidia GeForce driver 536.99 earlier this week, which added support for the acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.
The latest Nvidia driver had problems with ‘performance fluctuations’ in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the company says, which it puts down to ‘issues between DirectStorage and some in-game settings.’ Aside from this tweak, however, there appears to be little difference between the 537.09 hotfix and the official GeForce 536.99 driver.
Driver optimizations for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart were originally included in Nvidia GeForce driver 536.67 in advance of the July 26 release date. This driver also added support for Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards. The game supports Nvidia’s DLSS 3 AI frame-generation tech to improve performance, and is a PC port of a game that originally came out on the PlayStation in 2021. When introducing the hotfix, Nvidia also acknowledged that there’s a ‘significant weakness’ in its strategy to line up driver releases with major game and hardware launches. ‘Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver,’ the company stated.
Nvidia also notes that this hotfix isn’t WHQL certified. ‘To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is,’ the company says. ‘They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL-certified driver.’
