Things have been quiet on the Nvidia RTX 40 series news front in recent months but fresh rumors suggest we could soon be getting a new Ti variant of the RTX 4080. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti release date rumors suggest the upgraded variant of the original RTX 4080 Ti could offer improved performance while coming in at the same price as the current RTX 4080, with the older card set to potential drop in price.
The Nvidia GPU story suggests our list of the best graphics cards could soon have a couple of new entries. The RTX 4080 Ti may well provide a better balance of price and performance compared to those cards around it – such as the RTX 4090 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX – while the old RTX 4080 could become a much more compelling option with a price reduction.
The rumor comes via renowned hardware news leaker, MEGAsizeGPU, who writes that ‘There will be a 4080S(maybe Ti) in early 2024. Based on AD102, TGP below 450W, same price range as 4080′.
The use of the term ‘price range’ suggests the RTX 4080 Ti could essentially replace the RTX 4080 at the same price but could also mean it comes in at a slightly higher price too – the chances of it being lower are near none existent. Meanwhile, MEGAsizeGPU also suggests the card might be known as the RTX 4080 Super, as denoted by the use of ‘4080S’, but we’d expect Ti to be the more likely candidate as it has been Nvidia’s preferred terminology more recently.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti specs
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti specs are expected to be similar to the existing RTX 4080, with it using the same AD102 GPU. That means it would house at least 9,728 CUDA cores, 76 RT cores, and 304 Tensor cores. Meanwhile, its memory interface would be at least 256-bit talking to at least 16GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
However, where the RTX 4080’s TGP/TDP is below 320W, the RTX 4080 Ti TGP is reportedly below 450W. If it’s TGP is anywhere near that high, that would be a big leap that would also indicate a fairly significant step up in performance. At least, you’d certainly hope so for a 40 percent increase in power consumption that puts the card on the same power level as the RTX 4090.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti price
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti price will be $1,199, if it retains the same MSRP as the RTX 4080. However, there’s no official word yet. A price of $1,200 would put the RTX 4080 Ti well below the RTX 4090, potentially making it a comparative bargain. This also has the potential to cause price drops for the RTX 4080 and competing AMD cards.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti release date
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Ti release date is ‘early 2024’, according to the latest leaks and rumors. If that release date is accurate, it would provide a significant shake-up of the graphics card market, though technically that date range could mean we’re still waiting until March 31st 2024 – a whole five months away.
