The Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP gaming monitor has been known about for a while but has today seen an official availability announcement from Asus, making the bonkers 540Hz display ever closer to purchasable. While it’s 24-inch screen size and 1080p resolution won’t tempt all gamers, for those seeking the peak of responsiveness, early impressions have shown it’s going to be one to watch, if you can afford it.
Given the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP price is $900, the new Asus gaming monitor is stratospherically expensive for a 1080p gaming display, even if it is insanely fast. However, early testers have shown that its response time is far, far superior to most previous 360Hz or 500Hz panels. Where the likes of the Alienware AW2523HF drift along with an average 4.5ms response time, this Asus display has a claimed 0.2ms response time and early testers have put its average response at just 1.1ms.
As a result, this display should provide another level of image clarity in fast motion, giving gamers who play competitive FPS that don’t have a maximum frame rate should be able to fully take advantage of every frame their graphics card can deliver.
Further aiding this display’s gaming chops is the inclusion of Nvidia’s Ultra Low Motion Blue (ULMB) technology that backlight strobing to reduce the perceived response time of the panel even further.
Where the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP is set to be less impressive is in most other aspects of being a monitor. It’s relatively small, has a low resolution and, being a TN panel, its viewing angles will be bad. However, it has a higher than typical 93% DCI-P3 color space coverage which should means colors have plenty of saturation to them.
Regardless, it’s sure to find a place on our best gaming monitors list based on sheer performance alone and, for bleeding-edge competitive gamers, it’s sure to be a display they’ll covet even if the high price means it won’t be one they’ll be saving up for.
