AMD has just unveiled its latest CPU, the AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, which features six cores (12 threads) but does away with integrated graphics, allowing it to hit a new low price for the company’s 7000 series chips. However, it’s aimed primarily at Asian markets so isn’t currently available in the US or Europe.
With the AMD Ryzen 5 7500F price set at $179, it’s by some distance the cheapest Ryzen 7000 CPU yet. The next cheapest is the Ryzen 5 7600 which has an MSRP of $219. That chip reaches a 100MHz higher 5.1GHz peak clock speed and includes integrated graphics but the 7500F still offers a lot for its cost saving.
The new chip has a base clock speed of 3.7GHz, which is 100MHz slower than the Ryzen 5 7600, and a peak clock of 5GHz. It also has the same 6MB L2 cache and 32MB L3 cache as the Ryzen 5 7600. Crucially, those slower clock speeds and removal of the integrated graphics result in this being a chip that has just a 65W TDP, so it should be easy to keep cool while using relatively little power.
Some initial reviews – chips were only sampled to Asian review sites – show the new processor gives up very little in terms of both gaming and application performance. Quasarzone.com shows the chip provides an average 97 percent of the frame rate of the Ryzen 5 7600 across the 10 games tested. Meanwhile, its application performance is within 1 percent across almost all tests.
Compared to Intel’s main competitor, the Intel Core i5-13400F, the Ryzen 5 7500F also holds up well delivering 13 percent average higher frame rate. All while hitting a CPU temperature of just 66°C.
We’ll have to test the chip for ourselves to outright recommend it – plus it will have to become available to buy in the US and Europe for it to be relevant to most of our readers – but the AMD Ryzen 5 7500F certainly looks like it should be a great value CPU if you can find one.
