Wester Digital launches its new generation of Blue NVMe SSDs, the SN550, which boasts read speeds of up to 2,400MB/s thanks to the power of PCIe 3.0.

WD NVME SSD

Western Digital has launched their newest version of the Blue NVMe SSDs, designated the SN550. The 500GB model is one that we’ve tested and is currently our recommended budget NVMe SSD, so expectations are high for the other versions of this drive.

Update: Read our full WD Blue SN550 review here.

The WD Blue SN550 boasts a 2,400MB/s read speed, which is extremely fast whichever way you slice it. This makes it approximately four times faster at reading data than SATA SSD drives can manage. The capacities available range from 250GB to 1TB making this ideally sized for any role where speed is of the essence, be it games, video editing or running your operating system.

The WD Blue also features an improved thermal design to enable it to run faster for longer without the need for any further cooling.

The Western Digital Blue SN550 is now available starting at £50 for the 250GB version to £125 for the 1TB.
