Rumour Control: Gigabyte motherboards leaked at EEC

Leaks suggest that new motherboards for both Intel and AMD processors are on the way, featuring Z490 and X299X chipsets for team blue and TRX40 for team red.

Gigabyte’s upcoming motherboards for the Z490, HEDT 299X and TRX40 ranges have been leaked at the Eurasian Economic Commission. The Z490 is for the upcoming 10th generation Intel Comet Lake-S CPU range, the X299X for the Intel Cascade Lake-X and the TRX40 for the upcoming AMD Threadripper 3000 CPUs.

The range of boards being made by Gigabyte (with some under their AORUS gaming brand) includes since boards for the Z490, four for the X299 (with two under the more advanced X299X designation) and five TRX40s.

At this point we don’t know much about the boards themselves other than the names. It could be argued that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but the thing is if it was called an Extreme Rose Hypersniff Edition that would bring with it certain connotations, so let’s take a look what we’ve got.

The 400 series motherboards should appear in early 2020 alongside the Intel Comet Lake-S chips so we won’t have to wait too long to see what a ten core Intel CPU with 20 threads can do, and then what more it can do using what Intel claim is enhanced memory and core overclocking.

The Waterforce has been seen back at Computex 2019 in May and includes, as you’d expect, out of the box liquid cooling. A custom block extends down from the CPU to the Platform Controller Hub (PCH).

The TRX40 reportedly offers quad channel memory as opposed to the WRX80 which may offer eight channel. The TRX80 and WRX80 motherboards have yet to make an appearance.

As always more information will become available the closer the products get to release, especially if the manufacturers are feeling bullish, which rightly or wrongly let’s hope they are.
