Razer announces the Kraken Ultimate gaming headset

Razer announces the Kraken X and Kraken Ultimate gaming headsets, and while they may differ in price and specs they're both USB powered and feature LEDs.

Gaming headset with green lighting

Razer has announced two new gaming headsets, the Razer Kraken X and the Razer Kraken Ultimate. The Kraken X bobs around in the mid-range, while the Kraken Ultimate roams the high-end. Neither of them looks remotely like you’ve got a squid on your head though, which feels something like a missed opportunity.

The Kraken X is an ultra-lightweight USB headset with 7.1 surround sound (albeit specifically on Windows 10 64bit systems) and 40mm drivers for clear sound. They also feature memory foam cushions with eyewear channels, so they’re more comfortable for people wearing glasses, which is a nice touch. There’s a mute mic button on the left headphone cup, which is handier to get to in a hurry than having to find the controllers on the cable, or worse not having one at all.

The Kraken Ultimate is also USB powered but offers a beefier specification than the Kraken X across the board. 50mm drivers provide THX Spatial Audio, offering 360 degree positioned sound. The microphone features active noise cancelling for additional clarity and to filter out the sounds of whatever fishy business might be going on around you. The headphone cups are cushioned with cooling gel and illuminated by RGB lighting, because why not.

Both of the Kraken headsets are available now. The Kraken Ultimate for 129.99 and the Kraken X for £59.99.
